This venue

A short paper is not a truncated long paper—it should make a complete point in four pages.

arXiv is allowed, but the ARR PDF must stay anonymous. Check commit deadlines before targeting ACL/EMNLP/NAACL.

Length

Long: 8 content pages; short: 4. Unlimited references. Camera-ready +1 page. A dedicated Limitations section is required and uncounted; optional ethics discussion is also uncounted.

Review

Two-way anonymized review. No names, affiliations, or acknowledgments. Third-person self-citation. Repos must not deanonymize you.

Typesetting

Official *ACL two-column Letter template. Review versions have page numbers and a ruler; camera-ready drops them. Do not fork the style. Appendices may sit in the PDF outside the content cap.

Before you write

  • ARR cycle and conference commit dates checked.

FAQ

ARR vs direct conference submit?
Most ACL-family venues use ARR then commit—read the live CFP before drafting.
Can a short paper be cut from a long?
No—it must be a standalone complete contribution.
TACL vs ACL?
TACL for journal depth and rolling review; ACL-family conferences for meeting exposure via ARR→commit.
