This venue

Alongside ICML: NeurIPS often favors systems, theory, and broader-impact work; for representation-learning frontiers, compare ICLR.

arXiv is allowed, but the review PDF must stay anonymous. Journal extensions need a clear delta; concurrent dual submission is rejected.

Length

Main track: at most 9 content pages including figures and tables. References, the required Paper Checklist, and optional technical appendices do not count. Camera-ready usually gets +1 content page. Main PDF often ≤ 50MB.

Review

Double-blind. Drop acknowledgments and identifying repos. Cite your own work in the third person. Concurrent unpublished self-citations go in the supplement, anonymized. Identity leaks can desk-reject.

Typesetting

Use the official one-column Letter submission template—do not squeeze margins. Keep the checklist in the PDF (after references / optional appendix). Switch to camera-ready or preprint mode after acceptance.

Before you write

  • Main text ≤ 9 pages including figures and tables.
  • Names, affiliations, and acknowledgments stripped.
  • Paper Checklist still in the PDF.
  • Links and code browse anonymously.
  • Main PDF around ≤ 50MB.

Official pages

Summarized from public calls (as of 2025-09). Always match the CFP you are submitting to.

FAQ

NeurIPS vs ICML?
Systems, theory, or broad-impact work often fits NeurIPS; core learning algorithms also land well at ICML. Never dual-submit the same draft.
Does arXiv hurt review?
Preprints are usually allowed, but the review PDF must stay anonymous—cite prior work in the third person.
Can I extend a conference paper to a journal?
Yes with a substantial delta spelled out; resubmitting the same core is usually rejected.
